Hastings: a heck of a lot of happiness!
The Hawke’s Bay region is home to some major districts all fascinating and worth a visit. There are two neighbouring cities, however, which are a little bit different: Hastings and Napier.
Hastings is about eighteen kilometres inland of Napier; these two are known as the ‘Twin Cities’. Combined they are the two biggest urban areas in Hawke’s Bay and together they form some of the most interesting, eclectic and productive districts around.
Nick-named ‘The fruit bowl of New Zealand’ due to the perfect growing conditions (another reason to visit if you enjoy gorgeous weather!) Hastings is also well established as the agricultural hub of Hawke’s Bay.
Fruit orchards, vineyards, boutique and artisan food production have created a diverse (and tasty) opportunity for visitors to indulge appetites not only for quality eating and drinking but also for exploring.
Flat terrain has given rise to the development of now famous cycle trails which, coupled with the plethora of (around 70!) destination wineries on offer, have created a whole tourism industry in their own right.
Central city Hastings is the economic heart of Hawke’s Bay and chock-full of intriguing shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. The night market, wine and food festivals and music festivals in the region are well known and a strong drawcard to many keen New Zealand and international visitors.
Your hosts at Fairmont Motor Lodge can show you the best way to see this beautiful region and make the most of your Hawke’s Bay destination. We know you’ll want to come again.
